By accident, I searched for solid ground at a lighthouse. I missed home and remembered how going to the beach was an all-day affair as a child. Our family lived about an hour from Tybee Island, GA, and every summer, I’d end up at the beach with family or with one of my childhood best friends. Later in life, I traveled there with my college best friends, some of whom are no longer with us.

Another confession. I’ve never really cared for the beach. I drifted from my childhood best friends and then moved away from my college ones. When the outside world started to feel unstable, I found myself on a trip to the beach.
